Last Sunday, June 16, 2013, we had a surprise despedida party for Ma’am Sally (Rizalina Sally Labanda) before she migrates to her new home in the US. She has become one of the pillars of education here in the Philippines. She is a former president of the Reading Association of the Philippines (RAP) and the first Filipina who became the board member of the International Reading Association (IRA). She is an educator by heart and reading is truly her passion.
She thought that it was just a regular board meeting of the Reading Association of the Philippines. She was surprised when the past RAP Presidents, former DepEd USec, and even Ambeth Ocampo cleared their busy schedules to attend the party.
